Southern Biomass
Partnering for better energy solutions
Southern Biomass offers an accelerated pathway to better industrial heat energy solutions and decarbonisation for the Southern region.
Our operations represent an end-to-end network of forestry, logistics resources and business expertise, ensuring capacity and capability in the supply chain.
Owned by Dynes Transport and leading South Island forestry owners, IFS Growth and Earnslaw One, Southern Biomass offers energy options that are both sustainable and cost effective.
Centrally located to Southland Forest stocks, the green biomass production facility has capacity to produce 69,000 tonnes of pellets annually and is supported by a reliable road and rail network.
This cleaner alternative to traditional fossil fuels presents valuable resilience to the regions energy mix and relieves pressure on the current demands of the electrical infrastructure.
Southern Biomass provides:
Localised supply chain to wood fibre
Central location to forest stock, with existing site infrastructure
Supported by nearby road and rail infrastructure
Supports big industry to transition to reliable and sustainable energy source
Job creation and economic development
The Site
Mataura in Southland
Centrally located to forest supplies and energy users in Mataura, the Southern Biomass site leverages infrastructure from the existing lignite briquette plant, saving time, resources, and cost.
The operation is near rail and road infrastructure, which reduces transportation-related carbon emissions, further enhancing the overall environmental impact.
The Mataura Southern Biomass plant is the first of a well-staged expansion into the biomass industry across the southern region, that will be in business collaboration with forestry partners.
